Different Ways Libraries use a variety of Social Media

Different libraries use Social Media in many different ways.  Some such as State Library of Qld have many tools like Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, YouTube, Pinterest & Flicker.  Not only do they use these but they have tailored many to the individuals’ interest.  An example is Twitter, they have 6 different twitter accounts from which to choose ranging from following the Library in general to following their film section or what’s new in the shop. Some are more basic such as Public Record Office Victoria which only has Twitter, Facebook and Flicker and others are in between like LINC Tasmania which has Facebook, YouTube, Flicker, History Pin and Library Thing.  I guess some of the smaller libraries don’t see the need to have a large amount of social media options and therefore pick the more popular ones.  Social Media tools are a great idea for these groups as it hopefully opens them up to new users and keeps them going and hopefully growing.
