There are no official ettiquette rules or standards of behaviour when it comes to Social Media which is surprising considering they are such a big part of peoples lives. It does seem, however, that most people do show common sense when using these tools but from a professional stand point maybe these need to be formalised for employees.

Social Media and Copyright
Social media has changed the way we communicate with lots of
people publishing information without
regards to copyright law. If your
content is original then this should be okay but what about re-tweeting – this is
virtually taking something someone else has published word-for-word and reusing
it, is this fair or a breach of copyright?
I think that copyright rules on the Internet are still to open and that
some legal guidelines need to be created.

Different Ways Libraries use a variety of Social Media
Different libraries use Social Media in many different
ways. Some such as State Library of Qld
have many tools like Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, YouTube, Pinterest &
Flicker. Not only do they use these but
they have tailored many to the individuals’ interest. An example is Twitter, they have 6 different
twitter accounts from which to choose ranging from following the Library in
general to following their film section or what’s new in the shop. Some are
more basic such as Public Record Office Victoria which only has Twitter,
Facebook and Flicker and others are in between like LINC Tasmania which has
Facebook, YouTube, Flicker, History Pin and Library Thing. I guess some of the smaller libraries don’t
see the need to have a large amount of social media options and therefore pick
the more popular ones. Social Media
tools are a great idea for these groups as it hopefully opens them up to new
users and keeps them going and hopefully growing.

Follow Me
Hi all - if you want to follow my other Social Media then check out my Links at the bottom of the page. I hope they all work for you cause they did for me.
Privacy Issues on Social Media
Privacy is a real concern for me. I have never liked the idea of everyone knowing where I am, who i'm with, where I live etc so I keep my information very limited. Just recently however, having created all these accounts for study I had only just setup my Instagram account under my maiden name I put in very little personal information but someone from school had found me within 5 mins and was following me because I had not finished changing my privacy settings. Checkout the link below - very interesting.
